We seek to recruit, develop and retain the most talented individuals from a diverse candidate pool.THE POSITIONUnder general supervision, supports various City offices by performing a variety of routine to difficult clerical duties which may include, but are not limited to reception, typing, data input, cashiering, recordkeeping and filing; performs related work as assigned.This recruitment will remain open until sufficient qualified applications are received and may close at any time. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSKnowledge and Application of:Techniques of dealing with the public, in person and on the telephone.Proper business English, including, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.Professional/business decorum and customer service principles.Standard office and clerical policies and procedures, filing, specified computer applications including word processing, data entry, database access and/or standard report generation.Standard office equipment including computerized equipment, typewriter, adding machine, etc.Ability to Perform and Successfully Apply Skill In:Dealing tactfully and effectively with the public and others in the course of work.Understanding and carrying out written and oral instructions.Accurately performing detailed clerical work.Typing correspondence, forms and reports with speed and accuracy.Making accurate arithmetic calculations.Operating standard office equipment including computer terminal, typewriter and mailing machine.Operating keyboards, including typewriters and computer terminals.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEAny combination of training and experience that provides the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year (full-time equivalent) of experience performing clerical and/or customer service-related work, depending on the specific position.
